Erró (born July 19, 1932 in Ólafsvík , Iceland ; actually Guðmundur Guðmundsson ) is an Icelandic painter .

life and work

From 1952 to 1954 he studied at the Art Academy in Reykjavík and in Oslo . He then went to Florence , where he dealt with mosaic art until 1958 . In 1958 he moved to Paris , where he took part in the Antiproces exhibition in 1960 with some of his works . From 1961 to 1966 he took part in the Paris exhibition Salon de Mai every year . This was followed by numerous trips and exhibitions in other countries, e.g. B. he exhibited in 1969 at the Kunstverein Karlsruhe ( art and politics ). He also made several films, including Grimaces (1964).

In his paintings, the painter represents a style that fluctuates between Surrealism and Pop Art . The modern world with its technology and its inhumanity served him again and again as the theme of his works. It also integrates elements of comics and science fiction .

In 2010 he was honored with the French Order of Merit Légion d'honneur (Chevalier degree).

One of his half-brothers is the geologist and writer Ari Trausti Guðmundsson .
