Klaus Burkhard Liebig (* 1936 in Datteln , Westphalia ; † 1996 in Denklingen , Bavaria ) was a German artist.

Life

Klaus Liebig grew up in Datteln , Westphalia . He was the eldest of three siblings, the mother was a kindergarten teacher, the father a teacher. When he was six years old (1942), his father died in World War II . His talents in the fields of music, art and literature were also encouraged in the grammar school.

As a high school graduate, he met the psychologist Gisela Kräuter on the way back from a trip to the Mediterranean in Dornstetten / Black Forest. The two became a couple and Klaus Liebig moved to Dornstetten in 1957. The marriage had three children. In Dornstetten, Klaus Liebig put together his “personal encyclopedia”, a thematically arranged collection of excerpts, newspaper articles, book tears and notes consisting of 200 files. Klaus Liebig briefly attended the Stuttgart Art Academy , but decided on self-taught artistic development.

In 1970 there was a separation. Klaus Liebig moved to Munich to live with his gallery owner and later second wife Godula Buchholz, the daughter of the book and art dealer Karl Buchholz . In addition to his artistic work, Klaus Liebig was involved in the conceptual work of the gallery. In 1988 Godula Buchholz-Liebig and Klaus Liebig moved from Munich to Denklingen am Lech, with a second residence in Le Thor , southern France. Beyond art, he dealt with entomology , game theory, and formal logic .

In 1996 Klaus Liebig died in Denklingen, where his grave is located.

Klaus Liebig's work is characterized by narrative elements, landscapes and a musical delight in variation. Literary quotes, memories, fantasies and historical set pieces are composed into complex poetic worlds. At the end of the 1970s he became known to a larger audience through the exhibition “Let's mix all feelings together”, which showed works by Öyvind Fahlström , Erró and Gianfranco Baruchello . The exhibition was shown at the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus , Munich, the Frankfurter Kunstverein , the Musée d'art moderne de la Ville de Paris and the Louisiana Museum , Humlebeak near Copenhagen.
