Denklingen is a municipality in the Upper Bavarian district of Landsberg am Lech , which is about 80 kilometers southwest of Munich .

geography

location

Denklingen is the most south-westerly municipality in the Landsberg am Lech district. It is located on a gravel terrace west of the Lech on the edge of the Denklinger Rotwald and the Sachsenrieder Forest .

The lowest point of the community is at 629 m on the Lech , the highest at 853 m in the Sachsenrieder forest. The Ilsingsberg is 814 m high.

history

The Roman Via Claudia Augusta ran through the municipality . There are also traces of prehistoric settlement. The first documentary mention was in 1104 as "Thengelingen", probably derived from the personal name Denchilo. The Denklinger and the Sachsenrieder Forst were notarized as royal donations in 1059. In the 13th and 14th centuries there is evidence of a local nobility whose castle is said to have been destroyed in the Peasants' War in 1525.

Denklingen belonged to the monastery of Augsburg . Since the secularization of 1803 the place belongs to Bavaria. In the course of the administrative reforms in the Kingdom of Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 . From 1803, Denklingen was administered from Buchloe and from 1862 belonged to the Kaufbeuren district office .

In 1888, with the opening of the Fuchstalbahn from Landsberg to Schongau , Denklingen received its own train station. The connection to the railway network was lost in 1984 with the cessation of passenger traffic on the line.

The settlement of Abodiacum was already located in the district of Epfach in Roman times .

From 1917 to 1973 there was a forestry office in Denklingen. In 1972 the community came to the Landsberg am Lech district and moved from Swabia to Upper Bavaria .

mayor

Mayor has been Andreas Braunegger since January 15, 2018; he had been nominated for the election of the CSU, Free Citizens and Free Voting Community, which was necessary outside of the cycle. His predecessor Michael Kießling , in office since May 2014, was elected to the Bundestag and stepped down in October 2017.

Municipal council

The municipal council consists of 14 members and the first mayor. In the local elections on March 15, 2020, 1,394 of the 2,227 residents entitled to vote in the community of Denklingen exercised their right to vote, bringing the turnout to 62.60%.

Coat of arms history: The Weih (falcon) turned to the left is the ancestral coat of arms of the local noble lords of Denklingen, who were enfeoffed with goods in Denklingen in 1186 by the Bishop of Augsburg and can be traced back to the 14th century in the village. They built a castle on the Vogelherd and later moved to Füssen as citizens. The falcon on the Dreiberg is handed down in the personal coat of arms of Ulrich von Denklingen, who was abbot of the St. Mang monastery in Füssen from 1336 to 1347. St. Mang exercised the manorial rule over many properties in the municipality. The Dreiberg indicates the location of the municipality in the hilly upland upland. The colors white and red refer to the fact that it belonged to the Augsburg bishopric as early as the end of the 12th century.

Sports

Ice hockey: VfL Denklingen / ice hockey took part in the BEV games from 1966 to 2015 . The sporting highlights of the period were the championship of the Bavarian District League Group IV in 2007 , promotion to the Bavarian State League in 1983 and promotion to the Natural Ice Bavarian League in 1980 . The largest local employer is Hirschvogel Umformtechnik GmbH, the main factory of the Hirschvogel Automotive Group .

Thinking from the east

Taxer GmbH moved its headquarters from Munich to Denklingen in 2007. The waste management company has been in the metal and scrap trade since 1951 and has settled in the former gravel pit at Dr.-Manfred-Hirschvogel-Straße 10 (formerly Mühlstraße 10). The waste management company specializes in the purchase of industrial metals such as aluminum and copper, but also offers a container and dump service for construction waste, wood, bulky waste, tires and paper.
