history
Until the 19th century
Buchloe is located on a once wooded ridge that slopes gently down to the Gennach Valley. It was created in the second half of the 8th century by clearing a large landlord with originally about Reutgenossen on the outskirts of Urmark Wiedergeltingen and was first mentioned in 1150. The name Buchelon means "in the light beech forests".
The elevation of the site to the city was probably at the request Volkmarsdorf of the Elders of Kemnat by King Rudolf von Habsburg between 1273 and 1283. A decisive turning point in the history Buchloes was the replacement market and patronage rights in Buchloe and Dillishausen by the monastery Stams with the Hochstift Augsburg against goods and rights of the same in Seeg and Mieming in Tyrol in 1311. Buchloe remained in the possession of the Hochstift from then until the secularization (1802) . In the course of the 15th century Buchloe lost the rank of town, probably because the citizens of Buchloe could not assert this against the Augsburg bishop.
In 1771 Matthias Klostermayr , known as the Bavarian Hiasl , was imprisoned for a short time in the Buchloer breeding and work house (built 1722–1725, used as a prison until 1955 and demolished in 1962) after his arrest .
Buchloe was often hit by serious fire accidents. In the German Peasants' War the Buchloer sided with the insurgents, led by the Buchloer Sebastian Bader. Duke Ludwig von Baiern , who was expecting an attack by the Buchloe heap on his town of Landsberg , had the market in Buchloe plundered on April 20, 1525 as a preventive measure and buried in ashes. As early as 1533, eight years after the Peasants' War, another conflagration raged in Buchloe, which again cremated half the place and also destroyed the parish church of Our Lady . In 1546, during the Schmalkaldic War, Schertlin came from Burtenbach to Buchloe, had the place plundered and a fire started. In the course of the following centuries Buchloe developed from the 20 farms of Guelphic settlement on the mountain above the Gennach to the size and importance it is today. The town had 717 inhabitants in 1820 and around 2,500 in 1920.
20th century
After the Second World War (1939–1945) the population in Buchloe doubled to 5,250 due to the influx of displaced persons from the eastern regions . This increase in population and its importance as a railway junction were ultimately decisive for the fact that on April 20, 1954, Buchloe was re-awarded the designation "city" by the Free State of Bavaria with the colors red and silver as the city's coat of arms - once a late Gothic top sign of the Augsburg monastery . Today more than 12,000 people live in the city.
Population development
Thanks to the good transport connections and the proximity to Munich and Augsburg, Buchloe grew by 3245 inhabitants or around 37% between 1988 and 2000. Between 1988 and 2018 the population grew from 8,810 to 13,132 by 4,322 or 49.1%.
The population figures from 1840 onwards relate to today's municipality area (status: 1987).

coat of arms
The coat of arms is "split between red and white" . The coat of arms, which has been in use since around 1500, changed over time. In 1643 it shows the right half of the shield being damaged.
