Werner Hartmann (athlete)

Werner Franz Josef Hartmann (born April 20, 1959 in Mindelheim ) is a former German athlete who won the German championship title in the discus throw in 1979 in the Federal Republic of Germany .

In 1976 and 1977 Hartmann was German youth champion in discus throwing, and at the 1977 European Youth Championships he won the bronze medal. In 1978 he took third place at the German championships in the adult class behind Thomas Berlep and Rolf Danneberg . Also in 1978 Hartmann set a junior world record with the adult discus with 63.64 m in Strasbourg. At the European Championships in 1978 , he just missed making it into the finals of the top twelve throwers in 13th place. In 1979 Hartmann won his only German championship title, the following year he was on the German team for the Olympic Games in Moscow , which the German team did not compete in because of the Olympic boycott.

After a third place at the German Championships in 1981 , Hartmann reached second place behind Alwin Wagner from 1982 to 1984 . At the European Championships in 1982 Hartmann finished eleventh in the preliminary fight. The following year he missed the qualification finals at the 1983 World Championships as 18th. It was much tighter for Hartmann at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. With 59.92 m he missed the final by 84 centimeters in 13th place . After two weak years, Werner Hartmann finished at the German Championships in 1987 once again in second place behind Alois Hannecker at the 1987 World Championships he came not to the preliminaries.

At German championships, Hartmann also competed in the shot put . In 1983 outdoors and 1984 indoors he took third place with the ball. Hartmann started for VfL Buchloe until 1984 and then for TV Wattenscheid 01 . With a height of 1.89 m, his competition weight was 115 kg. He set his best performance in the discus throw with 67.54 m on April 29, 1982 in Georgsheil, his best performance in the shot put he reached with 19.13 m on June 21, 1987 in Recklinghausen.
