Pieter Arie Hendrik de Boer
Pieter Arie Hendrik de Boer (born June 14, 1910 in Woubrugge , † August 5, 1989 in Oegstgeest ) was a Dutch Reformed theologian.
Life
Pieter Arie Hendrik was the son of Hendrik de Boer (* 1872 in Workum) and Maria Maat (* 1873 in Koudekerk). He had attended the municipal high school in Leiden and in 1928 began studying theology and Semitic literature at the University of Leiden . On August 16, 1936, he became a Reformed pastor in the village of Berkenwoude and received his doctorate on May 20, 1938 under Bernardus Dirks Eerdmans with the topic Research into the text of I Samuel I-XVI. A contribution to the study of the Books of Samuel (German: Research in the text of Samuel 1-14. A contribution to the study of the books of Samuel ) to the doctor of theology. On August 5, 1938, he was appointed to the Leiden professorship of the Old Testament, Jewish history and literature, which he assumed on January 10 of the same year and on November 11 of that year the introductory speech Het Koningschap in Oud-Israel (German: The kingship in ancient Israel ) took over.
During the phase of the German occupation of the Netherlands (1940–1945) in World War II, he resigned his professorship on June 1, 1942, which he received again on September 4, 1945 after the end of the same. Studies on the Old Testament were at the center of de Boer's work . In 1939 the Oudtestamentisch Werkgezelschap in Nederland (OTW) was founded on his initiative , since 1942 he has worked as editor of the journal Oud-Testamentische Studiën and since 1951 as editor of the international journal Vetus Testamentum . In the academy year 1956/57 he was rector of the Alma Mater , for which he gave the rector 's speech Jeremia's twijfel (German: Jeremias Zweifel ) on February 8, 1957 . De Boer became a Knight of the Order of the Dutch Lion , he was awarded honorary doctorates from the University of St Andrews and the University of Cambridge . On October 1, 1978 he retired from his professorship and spent the last years of his life in Oegstgeest.

De Boer married on August 3, 1936 in Woubrugge with Johanna Anthonia Kroes (born August 30, 1912 in Woubrugge, † December 20, 1991 in Oegstgeest), the daughter of Frederik Kroes and his wife Anthonia Kwakernaak. There are children from the marriage. We know of these:
