It consists of the village of the same name and has 24,499 inhabitants (as of January 31, 2019) and covers an area of 7.97 km², of which 0.67 km² is water. Oegstgeest is a suburb of Leiden that can be reached on foot in 25 minutes from the train station in this city, north-west.
