Molenlanden is a municipality in the Dutch province of Zuid-Holland , which came into being on January 1, 2019 from the merger of the municipalities of Giessenlanden and Molenwaard .
geography
The municipality of Molenlanden is located in the east of the province of Zuid-Holland and is only a few kilometers north of Dordrecht . In the north, the Lek forms the natural municipal boundary . Furthermore, the provinces of Utrecht and Gelderland are adjacent to the east of Molenlanden.

politics
The municipalities of Giessenlanden and Molenwaard have decided to merge. The citizens could vote on the name of the new municipality. 58% of the people surveyed chose the name Molenlanden . The options De Waard and Groene Waard were also available.
Municipal council
On November 21, 2018, the citizens of Giessenlanden and Molenwaard were able to elect the new municipal council. The local Doe Mee! Molenlanden won the election before the Christian Democrats of the CDA and the ChristenUnie as well as the Reformed members of the SGP . The loser in the election was the Jezus Leeft party, which has its origins in Giessenburg in the municipality of Molenlanden and has participated in several local elections nationwide, but has never won a seat so far.

In the legislative period from 2019 to 2022, the coalition of the municipality of Molenlanden consists of the CDA and the VVD as well as the local electoral list Doe Mee! Molenlanden . The CDA and Doe Mee! Molenlanden are each represented by two councilors in the College van burgemeester en wethouders , while the VVD has only one councilor. Seat of the municipality
The municipality of Molenlanden is to be represented in the town hall of Nieuwpoort . It should be used on festive occasions and to receive important guests. The council of the municipality, on the other hand, should settle in the De Spil village house in Bleskensgraaf .

Attractions
- The community is known worldwide for the place Kinderdijk and its mills. These 19 mills have been part of the UNESCO World Heritage since 1997 and are among the most popular attractions in the Netherlands.
