history

The goals when the club was founded in 1901 were, “… to cultivate noble gymnastics, youth games and exercise of physical strength and at the same time love for the country and admiration for the emperor and empire. To awaken the youth's freshness of spirit, trust in their own strength and determination of will, but also to get them used to quickly grasping and precisely carrying out a command and to educate them in willing subordination to the purposes of a larger whole. "

In the spring of 1966 it was decided to make the athletics department a new focus. In 1970 the textile entrepreneur Klaus Steilmann was won as a sponsor. The current main and jersey sponsors are Stadtwerke Bochum . They also support TV 01 events such as the Stadtwerke Bochum Half Marathon (formerly: rewirpower City Run, the rewirpower Sprint Cup of the Bochum primary schools and the rewirpower West Park Run of the Bochum schools).

This includes, among other things, driving service and homework assistance.
