Ronny Ostwald

Ronny Ostwald (born April 7, 1974 in Beeskow ) is a former German sprinter .

He played at amateur level in his home village Groß-Rietz football , a competitive sports career was up to the age of 24 but not foreseeable. When he was discovered at police championships, he appeared as a sprinter in the German athletics scene in 1999 . Right off the bat, he was so quick that he was eligible for relay operations for the national team. In 1999 he was not yet allowed to compete in the national team because as a newcomer he was not in the squad and was therefore not routinely scheduled for doping controls.

His first appearance in the national team was at the European Indoor Championships in 2000. Here he reached the intermediate run in the 200-meter run .

At the European Championships in Munich in 2002 he was the starting runner of the German 4 x 100 meter relay , which took fourth place in 38.88 s in the line-up of Ostwald, Marc Blume , Alexander Kosenkow and Christian Schacht . In 2006 this season was honored retrospectively with the bronze medal, as the British season was disqualified because of the doping case around Dwain Chambers .

At the 2003 World Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis, Ostwald made it to the semi-finals with the German relay team, while at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Ostwald failed with the relay team in the run-up.

Ronny Ostwald was German champion in the 100 meter run in 2004 and 2006 , and in 2003 he was runner-up in the 200 meters. In 2006 he was German sprint champion in the hall. At the European Championships in Gothenburg 2006 he finished eighth in the final.

Ronny Ostwald was 1.80 m tall and had a competition weight of 83 kg. He was employed by the federal police and started for TV Wattenscheid 01 .

In 2009 he tore his Achilles tendon and had to end his athletic career. Since then he has been active as police chief, initially in Berlin and now in Stendal.
