Michael Möllenbeck (born December 12, 1969 in Wesel , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German athlete and Olympian who has been one of the world's best discus throwers since the late 1990s .

Möllenbeck's career began with a scandal when he rioted while drunk at a training camp in Albufeira, Portugal in 1994 . He was banned from the training group for half a year and fell out with his colleague Lars Riedel over this: this feud lasted until the end of his career. After his return Möllenbeck established himself as one of the best discus throwers. His greatest successes are the bronze medals at the World Athletics Championships in 2001 (67.61 m) and 2005 (65.95 m). In 2002, 2004 and 2005 he was German champion.

Möllenbeck had another successful year in 2002 when he won the European Cup final. He achieved a medal as third at the European Championships in 2002 (66.37 m). In 2004 he was also the winner of the European Cup. He also started at the Olympic Games in 1996, 2000 and 2004 as well as the World Athletics Championships in 1995, 1999 and 2003, but without a medal rank.

Möllenbeck belonged to Eintracht Frankfurt until 1996 , to SC Magdeburg from 1997 to 1998 and from 1999 to TV Wattenscheid 01 , where he trained with Miroslaw Jasinski . He is 2.00 m tall and weighs 120 kg. In 1996 he married the discus thrower Anja Gündler , and in 2002 he had a daughter. He is a trained office administrator and SAP programmer.
