Bastian Swillims (born December 9, 1982 in Dortmund ) is a former German sprinter . In 2007 he was vice European champion in the hall over 400 meters.

Life

The 400-meter runner won in 2000 with the German 4 x 400-meter relay , the Vice World Championship . In 2001 he won bronze at the European Junior Championships with 46.88 s. In the following year he was the first time in the adult area German master in the hall. At the European Championships in 2002 , he finished seventh with the German relay. He achieved the same place with the relay at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens . At the European Championships in Gothenburg in 2006 he was fourth with the relay.

In 2007 Swillims was German indoor champion for the second time. Shortly afterwards he won the silver medal at the European Indoor Championships in Birmingham . There he improved his indoor best time to 45.62 s. In the same year he finally succeeded in winning the German outdoor championship at the championships in Erfurt . He set his personal best outdoors with 45.44 s at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka . However, this time in advance was not enough for him to advance to the next round. In the relay race, the German quartet reached eighth place.

In 2008 Swillims took part in the Olympic Games in Beijing , but where he was eliminated in the individual and with the relay in the preliminary stages. In 2009 he became German champion with the season of TV Wattenscheid . In the following year he won the German indoor championship both individually and with the Wattenscheider relay. At the European Championships , which took place in Barcelona in the same year, the German relay barely missed a medal with fourth place. In 2011 Swillims defended the German championship title in the hall with the Wattenscheider relay. This was also his last race. He then had to take a break due to an injury, and in 2012 he retired from competitive sports.

Bastian Swillims is 1.92 m tall and weighed 90 kg at competition times. He started his career at LG Olympia Dortmund . In 2002 he switched to TV Wattenscheid 01 . In 2005 he started for SC Magdeburg , from 2006 he was back for TV Wattenscheid 01. He studies sports and event management in Iserlohn.
