Denise Kunze , née Denise Hinrichs , (born June 7, 1987 in Rostock ) is a former German shot putter . On June 27, 2016, Kunze, as she is now called after marriage, announced the end of her career.

Since 2006, she has been a member of the Kienbaum Federal Police Sports School , the federal police’s top-level sports sponsor for summer and year-round sports.

Athletic career

In 2003 she finished fourth at the World Youth Championships, in 2005 she became Junior European Champion and the following year she was Junior Vice World Champion. Silver followed again in 2007, this time at the U23 European Championships.

After bronze at the German Indoor Championships in 2006 was her greatest success up to that point in the adult division, she won the title in the 2008 indoor season. At the World Indoor Championships in Valencia , she narrowly missed the finals as ninth in the qualification. On May 24, 2008, Hinrichs increased her personal best in Halle (Saale) to 19.07 m. With this achievement, she qualified for participation in the Beijing Olympic Games .

In 2009 Hinrichs became German champion both indoors and outdoors. At the European Indoor Championships in Turin , she won the silver medal with a width of 19.63 m - at the same time a new personal best. This year she increased her best outdoor performance to 19.47 m. In the summer she was U23 European champion and at the World Championships in Berlin she came in eleventh place.

In 2010 she reached eighth place at the European Championships in Helsinki . In 2011 she tore a cruciate ligament on her left knee. In 2012 she finished third at the German Championships, but at the end of the year her cruciate ligament tore again.

Denise Hinrichs is 1.80 m tall and had a competition weight of 80 kg. It started for Schwaaner SV , SC Neubrandenburg and, since 2007, for TV Wattenscheid 01 .
