The Schwaaner Sportverein eV is the successor to the company sports association (BSG) Traktor Schwaan, which was founded in 1948 as SG Schwaan. The BSG became known nationwide, especially through its football and handball sections. While the men's handball team attracted the greatest attention by participating in the first main round of the GDR-wide handball cup competition 1978/79 , the soccer team became known for their appearance in the state championship of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the 1946/47 season . After the league could not be achieved with eighth place out of ten teams, the Schwaaner footballers played in the Mecklenburg district class, which was only fourth class from 1950. When in 1952 GDR football from the 3rd league was switched to the new district level , Traktor Schwaan played in the fourth class district class Schwerin. From 1956 to 1963, after the introduction of the Second GDR League, it was only fifth class. In 1963, the BSG tractors had to relinquish the district class, to which they only returned in 1965 for three seasons. After relegation in 1968, Traktor Schwaan remained at the regional league level.
