The Mecklenburg state soccer class was one of five top soccer national classes in the Soviet occupation zone and the German Democratic Republic . It was held from 1946 to 1952 and determined the soccer champions of the state of Mecklenburg . After the introduction of the GDR Oberliga and the GDR League , the national class was only third class from the 1950/51 season.

history

As early as 1945 there were individual championships at the municipal level, but the staging of a zone championship was prohibited. The winner in Greifswald was the Greifswald sports group (formerly Greifswalder SC ), the winner in Rostock was the Rostock West sports group (formerly TSG Rostock 1895 ), and the Schwerin sports group (successor to the Schwerin FC 03 ) won in Schwerin . From 1946, the Soviet occupying power also allowed competitions at the state level. For the 1946/47 season , two squadrons were set up for each of the two regions of Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania and the champions were determined in a final round. The squadrons were staffed differently, several teams only played part of the games. For Western Pomerania, only one place in the final round was provided, which was determined by the two season winners' return games. Since the occupying power had banned the previous football clubs, newly formed sports communities and sports groups (SG) played for the state championship. The SG Rostock-Süd prevailed as the first post-war champion .

For the 1947/48 season , the state class was reduced to two seasons (east and west), whose first and second place winners played off the Mecklenburg champions in the final round. The winner and the runner-up were qualified for the first-ever soccer East Zone Championship. For the 1948/49 season , the number of participants was increased to 16 teams, the mode of competition was retained. The two first-placed clubs qualified for the newly introduced GDR league in the coming season , so the Mecklenburg regional football class was only second class from the 1949/50 season . After the Eastern Zone sport had been converted to the basis of company sports associations (BSG) , most of the previous SG appeared with new names. With the introduction of the GDR League , the national class was third class from 1950/51 . In the summer of 1952, the states in the GDR were liquidated and 14 districts were introduced in their place . GDR football had to adapt to the new administrative structure with its league system. The national leagues were therefore dissolved after the 1951/52 season and replaced by 14 district leagues .
