The Saxony state soccer class was one of five state soccer classes in the area of the Soviet occupation zone and the German Democratic Republic . It was held from 1949 to 1952 and determined the soccer champions of Saxony . A Saxon soccer champion was determined as early as 1948, but this was done via a knockout system of the individual district champions and not via a top national class. After the introduction of the GDR Oberliga and the GDR League , the national class was only third class from the 1950/51 season.

A decision tournament was held for this, for which the clubs from the individual football districts could qualify. In the end, the SG Planitz and SG Einheit Meerane prevailed and took part in the Eastern Zone Championship. There the SG Planitz managed to march through to the final, which they won 1-0 against SG Freiimfelde Halle on July 4, 1948 in Leipzig .

1948/49: State Championship Saxony
In the following season 1948/49, in contrast to the rest of the SBZ countries, no national league was introduced in Saxony. However, there was now at least one regional class relay in every football district, the winners of which could fight for the national championship title. After the district champions were determined in the districts with several relays, the winners met in a round-robin tournament and determined both the Saxon state champions, as well as the participants in the soccer east zone championship in 1949 and the qualifiers for the newly introduced GDR soccer team for the coming season Oberliga 1949/50 .
Since 1949: State soccer class Saxony
Originally, the national class was planned with two squadrons of ten teams each, as decided by a national football leaders' conference in November 1948. In the end, there was an East relay with eleven teams and a West relay with twelve teams. The start of the national class was also influenced by the outcome of the FDGB Cup in 1949 , as it was not clear until September 6, 1949 that the third-placed ZSG Horch Zwickau had qualified for the DS League . In addition, the composition of the relay was not insignificantly dependent on the amalgamation of various communities in advance, as was shown by the example of the Leipzig district class. The two season winners played for the Saxon championship. The Saxon champion was entitled to the promotion round to the GDR Oberliga , the runner-up qualified directly for the newly created second-rate GDR league . The second in each season were also directly qualified for the GDR league, the third in each season played another participant for the GDR league. The SG Dresden-Friedrichstadt was able to prevail in a decision-making round against the SG Einheit Meerane and the ZSG Industrie Leipzig .
In the 1950/51 season , the state class of Saxony was only third class due to the introduction of the GDR League. It was reduced to a season with 14 teams. The BSG Rotation Plauen prevailed in the round-robin tournament and rose to the second class. The competition mode was retained in 1951/52 . During this season, the BSG Empor Wurzen-West secured the Saxon championship title. In the summer of 1952, the states in the GDR were liquidated and 14 districts were introduced in their place . GDR football had to adapt to the new administrative structure with its league system. The national classes were therefore dissolved after the 1951/52 season and replaced by 14 district leagues . Instead of football Landesklasse Saxony entered the Football League District Dresden , the Football League District Karl-Marx-Stadt and the Football League District Leipzig .
