The SG Motor Gohlis-Nord Leipzig e. V. ( MoGoNo for short ) is a German sports community from Leipzig . With over 2,500 members, the association is one of the largest in Leipzig and one of the 14 largest associations in Saxony. The athletes are active in 13 different departments. These include the departments of badminton, archery, soccer, health sports, gymnastics, handball, judo, children's sports, lacrosse, athletics, swimming, taekwondo and table tennis. The largest department in terms of numbers is the Children's Sports Department with over 600 members. As a popular sports club, athletes of all ages will find a wide range of sports. In the archery, inline skating and athletics departments, it has also been possible to repeatedly achieve the title of German Master in recent years. The soccer department is in the tradition of SC Wacker Leipzig and the handball department in that of TSV Gohlis .

Handball department

Handball has been practiced in Gohlis since 1920 . Only five years later, the German championship in large field handball, then as TSV Gohlis, could be won. After reaching the final round of the GDR men's championship in 1954, SG MoGoNo was a founding member between 1954 and 1963 for nine years or eight seasons (the 1957/58 season was not held in the GDR because of the handball world championship ) in the then two-part GDR league in indoor handball and reached the final of the GDR men's championship against local rivals SC DHfK Leipzig in the 1958/59 season as the season winner , which was lost at 1:20 pm. In 1963 the SG MoGoNo was relegated and in the following period commuted between the second and third highest division. After 1990 they mostly played at the state level. In the summer of 2007, a large part of the handball department moved to SC DHfK Leipzig, which then took over the starting place in the then Oberliga Sachsen from SG MoGoNo. Within a short time, however, the club built up a broad handball department with many junior teams and currently has more than 250 members (as of January 2020).

Football department

SG Leipzig Gohlis-Nord was the direct successor to Wacker Leipzig. From 1945 to 1947 championships could only be played in the Leipzig area, from 1946/47 with clubs from the district. The sports community operated in the Leipzig City League, which at that time was equivalent to the Berlin City League in terms of performance. Gohlis finished 2nd / 2nd / 1st. in the seasons. After the 1st place in the game series 1947/48 before the SG Leipzig-Leutzsch (Tura) Gohlis was only Leipzig runner-up. In the final they lost to Markranstädt 2: 4 (0: 3). To participate in the Sachsen- u. East zone championship was brought forward early in May 1948 a qualification of the leaders in the relays. The future master Markranstädt was defeated 1-0 afterwards in front of 5000 spectators. Gohlis was defeated in the Saxon quarter-finals against Meerane with 0: 1 in front of 10,000 spectators in Dresden. The placements were a great success after the "Wacker times", as all the top clubs in Leipzig took part. In the 1948/49 season in a 26-team league (mammoth league) in the Leipzig district was fought in a simple round for the classification of the new higher leagues ( Oberliga , Landesliga). With 13th place Gohlis was far from it. In the following three game series Gohlis acted with changing club names in the district u. of the city of Leipzig.

After the dissolution of the federal states, BSG Motor Gohlis-Nord Leipzig took part in the district class (1st place) in the game operation from 1952 until 1956. After promotion to the district league , he qualified as a newcomer in second place in the 1957 season together with Lok Ost (Fortuna Leipzig) and Motor Schkeuditz, qualifying for the II. GDR League . The Saxons held the third-highest division of the GDR until it was dissolved in 1963, initially with excellent placements (8th / 3rd / 2nd place) and ambitions for promotion to the first GDR league . Then the 12th and in 1962/63 the 14th place was occupied last. Even in the district league, relegation with 17th place could not be prevented. In the next few years Gohlis played in the Leipzig district class. 1971 succeeded once again promotion to the district league Leipzig, since 1966 third highest class in GDR football, but one rose again immediately. In the following years, even the district class was not held more and more often and took part in local soccer in the city of Leipzig, including in the period after 1990. Most recently, SG Motor Gohlis Nord played in the district class in 2005/06, since then in the Leipzig city league. MoGoNo plays its home games in the Stadium of Peace .

In the FDGB Cup of the GDR era, the BSG had to give up prematurely against Chemie Kahla , Vorwärts Leipzig and Lok Stendal in the first main round.
