The Stadium of Peace is one of the largest stadium areas in the Saxon city of Leipzig . It is located in the Gohlis district on Max-Liebermann- Strasse and has a capacity of 20,500 seats, 500 of which are uncovered. The stadium had a capacity of around 50,000 when it was re-inaugurated on September 30, 1951 after renovation work.

history

The Stadium of Peace was officially opened in 1923 and then served as a venue for SC Wacker Leipzig . After the previously renowned club was dissolved during the Second World War , the Motor Gohlis-Nord sports association (SG MoGoNo) took over the site.

The stadium became famous, among other things, as a neutral venue for the heated local soccer derbies between 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig and BSG Chemie Leipzig in the 1983/84 league season when the lawn of the central stadium was battered and damaged after the 7th Gymnastics and Sports Festival Was not playable and you needed an alternative venue. 30,000 and 19,000 spectators came to Gohlis for these duels. In the previous season, TSG Chemie Markkleeberg played their home game in the GDR league against BSG Chemie Leipzig in front of 15,000 spectators in this stadium because the stadium on the Lauer in Markkleeberg (capacity: 6,000 spectators) was much too small. In the 1950s and 1960s, the stadium was the home of the chemical predecessor SC Lokomotive Leipzig .

In addition to three large-field courts, the stadium also houses a separate small-field, beach, hockey, and small and large hard court. There is also an athletics hall, a weight room, the judo dojo and a club room.
