Denmark was the favorite in the tournament, but was completely exhausted in the main round match against Sweden (12:13). The all-German team had to bear the handicap that the players from East and West embodied different game systems and had not had enough time to prepare for the World Cup. However, the German players determined the game from the start and were leading 3-0 after just four minutes. Although the Danes briefly equalized in the eighth minute, the German team was always in the lead after that. The East Germans Matz and Hirsch skilfully directed and the mixed attack by Tiedemann, Schwenker and Kretzschmar caused a storm that the Danish defense could not cope with. The Danish coach's attempt to stabilize his defense with adjustments was also in vain. The Germans were able to extend their lead to eight goals at times and in the end earned a deserved win. The German team played along
Hinrichs - Hirsch (2), Matz (2) - Maychrzak (4) - Tiedemann, Kretzschmar, Schwenker (2) - Giele (4), Vollmer, Käsler (2)
