Otto Maychrzak

Otto Maychrzak (born March 6, 1927 in Hamburg ; † November 19, 2002 in Bokholt-Hanredder ) was a German handball player . Because of his powerful throws he was nicknamed " Atom-Otto ".

Life

The 1.92 meter tall Maychrzak initially played at Hamm 74 . From 1944 he played as a member of the Wehrmacht with the SG Berlin and after the Second World War for the sports association Police Hamburg . With the SV Police he won the German championship eight times (1950–1953 in the hall, 1951–1953 and 1955 on the field). After the great time of the "police" Maychrzak played for the handball team of Hamburger SV until 1965 and took part in the final round of the German indoor handball championship in 1962 and 1964. He then ended his career as a player-coach at Niendorfer TSV .

Otto Maychrzak played a total of 26 indoor internationals for the DHB between 1951 and 1959, in which he scored 108 goals. In his three international matches on the large field in 1952 and 1953, he scored 16 goals. He was in the joint squad of the German Handball Federation and the German Handball Association at the 1954 World Cup (2nd place) and the 1958 World Cup (3rd place). At the 1954 World Cup he was the best goal thrower. With the German police selection, he won the European title in 1960.

After his playing career, Otto Maychrzak was coach of the women's team at SC Union 03 Altona and referee for company football. From July 1978 he also headed the women's gymnastics group of Vosslocher SV, of which he was chairman of the board from 1978 to 1979.

From 1947 to 1987 he worked for the Hamburg criminal police, most recently as chief detective. He also completed training to become an accountant .

He was a member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and as such a council member in Elmshorn .

Maychrzak died of pulmonary embolism at the age of 75 . He was buried on November 26, 2002 in the Niendorfer Friedhof Promenadenstrasse.
