The 2nd handball world championship took place from January 13th to 17th, 1954 in Sweden . The tournament took Denmark , the Czechoslovakia , the Switzerland , the Federal Republic of Germany , France and hosts Sweden in part.

The game was played in two preliminary round groups, the respective group winners reached the final. There the team of hosts under Curt Wadmark prevailed against the German team with 17:14 (8: 5).
