Kristianstad ([ krɪ'ɧansta ], Danish outdated Christiansstad , German outdated Christianstadt ) is a city in the northeast of the southern Swedish province of Skåne län and the historic province of Skåne . The city is the capital of the municipality of the same name .
history
Kristianstad was founded in 1614 by the Danish King Christian IV after Swedish troops under Gustav II Adolf had burned the old town of Vä in a military campaign.
In the 17th century it was of great importance as a Danish border fortification against Sweden. When Scania, Blekinge and Halland had to be ceded to Sweden with the Peace of Roskilde in 1658 , Kristianstad lost this strategic importance and gained influence as a trading town.
Since 1719 Kristianstad was the capital of the province Kristianstads län , which in 1997 was merged with Malmöhus län to form Skåne län.
Attractions
The well-preserved historic town center , which can still be seen as a fortress, and the Heliga Trefaldighets kyrka (Holy Trinity Church) are worth seeing . The church, built between 1618 and 1628 according to plans by the architect Hans van Steenwinckel the Younger , is one of the most important examples of Protestant sacred architecture , the principles of which you can find with its excellent proportions, the carefully balanced interplay between clear window openings, decorative details and, above all, the slim granite pillars made it possible to experience the space in a special way. The Kristianstad Theater and the listed former museum building Fornstugan are located in the city's Tivoli Park .
The dolmens on Dösabacken ( dolmen hill) are located west of Nybodalsvägen, a connecting road between the villages of Viby and Fjälkinge, east of Kristianstad.
