The place with 270 inhabitants (2010) is north of Kristianstad on the banks of the Helge å . The Kristianstads Vattenrike biosphere reserve, which extends further south from here, begins in Torsebro . To the north are the lake Gummastorpasjön and an oak forest. Road 118 runs south of the village.

history

The Helge å has strong rapids here . There is a drop of 10 meters over a length of about 500 meters. This hydropower has been used for centuries. There were numerous watermills at Torsebro . With this in mind, the Torsebro powder factory was founded here in 1681 and operated until 1926. The powder mill was an important element of Swedish armament for a long time.

From 1909 the first hydropower plant for electricity generation was put into operation in Torsebro. In 1980 this plant was demolished. Even today, however, electricity is still generated in Torsebro from hydropower. The Helge å was straightened for this purpose. However, since 1993 there has always been a sufficient amount of water in the old river bed to enable salmon and salmon trout to move up the river.

Torsebro belonged to the rural municipality of Nosaby (Nosaby landskommun) before it was integrated into the municipality of Kristianstad on January 1, 1967. The population of the place rose recently from 204 in 1980 to 249 in 2000 to 270 in 2010. However, the population had a high in 1960 with 276 people. In 2015 Torsebro lost the status of a crime scene due to the excessive distance in the residential areas according to the crime scene definition. Instead, the Statistiska centralbyrån showed two ( Småorter ) : the larger one includes the entire part to the left of the river and the section to the right of the river between the bridge and the former powder factory, the other the somewhat separate residential area to the west of it, in the direction of the exit the Swedish county road 118 after Bjärlöv .

Investments

There is an open-air swimming pool and a tennis court in the village. North-east of Torsebro is the historic 18th century Ballingstorps gård farm . A well-known attraction is the Torsebro powder mill.
