The Sportfreunde Baumberg are a German football club from the Baumberg district of the city of Monheim am Rhein with 750 members. The club played from 2012 to 2015 and since 2016 in the Oberliga Niederrhein . In 2013 the club won the Niederrhein Cup and qualified for the DFB Cup .

history

The association was founded in 1962 as the first in 1955 from SV Monheim in 1910 and the sport friends Baumberg 1926 resulting fusion club Sportfreunde Monheim-Baumberg in the 1. FC Monheim and Sportfreunde Baumberg aufteilte. The first men's team played predominantly football at the district league level until the 1980s. In 1990 he was promoted to the Lower Rhine regional league , in which Sportfreunde were runner-up in 1991 behind TSV Bayer Dormagen , in 1992 behind SV Bayer Wuppertal and in 1995 behind FC Zons . In 1998 they had to go back to the district league, from which they returned three years later. In the 2005/06 season, the club was champion of the regional league and made it to the sixth class association league Niederrhein for the first time . After two years the relegation followed. In the 2009/10 season, Sportfreunde Baumberg were again state league champions and were promoted to the sixth class Niederrheinliga.

The Sportfreunde have been a cooperation partner of Fortuna Düsseldorf since 2011 . In 2012, the team qualified as a Lower Rhine league team for the fifth-class Oberliga Niederrhein. For the 50th anniversary of the Baumberg sports club, they played a friendly game against the first division club in October 2012, which Baumberg lost 5-0 in front of 1,962 spectators. On April 17, 2013 Baumberg reached the final of the Lower Rhine Cup 2012/13 with a 1-0 victory in the quarter-finals against the regional division SSVg Velbert and 1-0 in the semifinals against the upper division SV Hönnepel-Niedermörmter , after the team had made the quarter-finals the previous year was eliminated. In the final, the Sportfreunde were able to prevail 1-0 against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. With this victory, Sportfreunde Baumberg qualified for the DFB Cup for the first time . In the first round of the 2013/14 DFB Cup, the blue-whites, who moved to the Ulrich Haberland Stadium in Leverkusen, were eliminated 4-1 against second division club FC Ingolstadt 04 . In 2015 the club was relegated to the regional league. In 2016 he was promoted to the Oberliga Niederrhein again. Relegation was achieved in the 2016/17 season. For the 2018/19 season, despite possible promotion, no regional league license was applied for because the club cannot meet the associated requirements.

More teams

In the 2018/19 season the second team will play in the Niederrhein district league and the third team in the C Solingen district league. The women's team plays in the Lower Rhine League.
