history

Early years (1951 to 2012)

The club was created on June 8, 1951 through the merger of the clubs FC Niedermörmter and Viktoria Hönnepel . In August 1963, the club moved into its current home sports facility on Rheinstrasse , which the club members built themselves. For decades, SV Hönnepel-Niedermörmter only played on the district level. Between 1980 and 1984 the team competed in the 1st district class. Finally, in 2001, he was promoted to the district league for the first time. Four years later, he was promoted to the Lower Rhine regional league . There the team made it through to the Association League Niederrhein right away .

There the club was thirteenth in the table in the 2006/07 promotion season and was only just able to keep the class due to the withdrawal of FSV Kettwig . In 2012, the club caused a sensation in the Lower Rhine Cup when the team won the semi-finals at the Rot-Weiß Oberhausen club, which played three leagues higher, 7: 5 on penalties . In the final, SV Hönnepel-Niedermörmter met Rot-Weiss Essen . In front of 10,000 spectators in the Georg Melches Stadium in Essen , the Red-Whites won just 3-2. In the association league, the team did not get beyond midfield positions.

Oberliga (2012 to 2017)

As sixth in the 2011/12 season of the association's league, SV Hönnepel-Niedermörmter qualified for the newly created Niederrhein Oberliga, where the team finished fourteenth in the 2012/13 season . Although numerous players left the club, the club got off to a successful start in the 2013/14 season . After the team survived the first twelve games without defeat, the team secured the autumn championship .

With a 3-1 win over the second team from Rot-Weiß Oberhausen, Hö / Nie secured the championship on the penultimate matchday. Andre Trienenjost was the top scorer in the league with 29 goals. Despite this success, the club refrained from advancing because the organizational and sporting risks for the club would be incalculable. In April 2015, coach Georg Mewes described the waiver as the biggest blow to the neck. At the same time, internal quarrels shook the association. President and main sponsor Alexander Kehrmann resigned and announced that he would reduce his financial commitment. Rumors that the club is facing bankruptcy have been denied.

In the 2015/16 season , the team struggled against relegation for a long time, but was able to save itself to tenth place at the end of the season. Coach Georg Mewes resigned at the end of the season and was replaced by Daniel legs, who was previously the player- coach of the second team. For the 2016/17 season , the club made a major change and relied on young players from the region. In December 2016, the coach had to walk because the team was bottom of the table without a win. Georg Mewes returned to the Hönnepeler coaching bench for him. Under Mewes, the team started a comeback, but missed relegation on the penultimate match day and was relegated to the Landesliga Niederrhein .

Landesliga (since 2017)

There the team almost relegated again in the 2017/18 season and only managed to stay up after a 3-2 win on the last match day against FC Kray . A year later, the club only saved itself on the last match day, this time with a 2-0 win over SV Scherpenberg .

Trivia

The SV Hönnepel-Niedermörmter gained national attention in the autumn of 2013 through the show Zeigler's wonderful world of football on West German radio . In his broadcast, presenter Arnd Zeigler read the program of the Wuppertal SV for the coming weeks and mentioned the championship game between the Wuppertal and SV Hönnepel-Niedermörmter.

"Hönnepel-Niedermörmter, that's a name, I get a little horny."

- Arnd Zeigler

Zeigler then offered that he would moderate his next show in the SV Hö / Nie jersey if the club would send him one. The club then sent him a whole package of fan merchandise. After Zeigler actually presented his show in the Hö / Nie jersey on September 15, 2013, he took over the job of stadium announcer at the home game of SV Hönnepel-Niedermörmter against Wuppertaler SV .

The association attaches great importance to being a "village club". The two villages of Hönnepel and Niedermörmter have a total of around 2,000 inhabitants. The club's motto is And the field trembles on the Lower Rhine . In addition, the association takes unusual measures. For example, players are required to use a time clock to record their presence during training .
