Rhine bridge

Niedermörmter is a district of Kalkar . Niedermörmter is about 8 km east of Kalkar, on the left bank of the Rhine across from Rees .

history

Niedermörmter once belonged to Rees. At that time the Rhine did not yet separate the two villages and Niedermörmter was on the right bank of the river. The Rhine moved its bed and now flows east of Niedermörmter.

Since 1392 the village belonged to the county and later duchy of Kleve . On July 1, 1969, Niedermörmter was incorporated into Kalkar.

The Rhine bridge Rees-Kalkar brought Niedermörmter an economic upswing since 1967, as the bridge connects to the left bank of the Rhine in Niedermörmter.

The Reeserschanz nature reserve is close to Niedermörmter . Since the spring of 1996, hikers and cyclists have been able to use the "Räässer Pöntje" ferry to cross between Reeserschanz and Rees .

The public golf course "Mühlenhof Golf & Country Club" is located on the outskirts of the village.

The SV Hönnepel-Niedermörmter is the most famous football club in town.
