Gideon Jung (born September 12, 1994 in Düsseldorf ) is a German - Ghanaian soccer player . He is under contract with Hamburger SV and is mainly used in central defense or in defensive midfield .

Beginnings

Jung had started playing football in the youth of Sportfreunde Baumberg before he moved to the A-youth (U-19) of Rot-Weiß Oberhausen in 2012 . For the 2013/14 season he moved up to the first team. In his first year he played 22 games in the fourth-class Regionalliga West , in which he scored two goals.

Change to Hamburger SV

For the 2014/15 season , Jung moved to the Bundesliga for Hamburger SV . At the same time he was in his first season at HSV in the squad of the second team (U23), which competes in the fourth-class Regionalliga Nord . In his first season he came to 23 regional league appearances, in which he scored two goals. In January 2015, his contract term was extended by two years to June 30, 2018. In September 2015 and August 2016, Jung was nominated for the German U21 squad , but canceled his participation in the upcoming games due to injuries. On March 24, 2017, he finally made his debut for the U21s in the 1-0 win against England in Wiesbaden and was voted “Man of the Match”, although the survey was heavily influenced by fans of Hamburger SV .

In May 2017, Jung was nominated by U21 national coach Stefan Kuntz in the provisional squad for the U21 European Championship in Poland . On June 6th, Kuntz announced that Jung was in the final U21 European Championship squad . In the tournament, Jung made four appearances and was U21 European champion.

Jung, whose parents both come from Ghana, could also show up for the West African country. In 2017, he had not yet decided which senior national team he would like to play for.
