Julian Pollersbeck comes from Emmerting in eastern Upper Bavaria and initially played for the local SV DJK Emmerting when he was young, then at the age of 16 he switched to Wacker Burghausen , the third division club at the time by far the most successful club in his home district of Altötting . From the 2011/12 season he was in the squad of the U19 team in the second-class A-Junior Bayern League and the second men's team in the sixth-class Landesliga Bayern Süd . In 2012/13 he played seven games in the Bayernliga Süd for the promoted second team , and sat on the bench in three games for the first team in the third division . After this season, Pollersbeck moved to 1. FC Kaiserslautern . For the 2014/15 season he moved up to the professional squad and received a professional contract in November 2014. The young goalkeeper made his professional debut in the 2nd Bundesliga on September 11, 2016 (4th matchday) in the 0-2 away defeat against SV Sandhausen after substituting for Stipe Vučur in the 74th minute, after the goalkeeper André Weis after one red card of the field was referred. Pollersbeck also represented his rivals in the following games and stayed in goal even after his suspension had expired. Pollersbeck's contract with the Palatinate ran until 2020.

Hamburger SV

For the 2017/18 season , Pollersbeck moved to the Bundesliga for Hamburger SV , with whom he signed a four-year contract until June 30, 2021. In his first preparation for the season at HSV, Pollersbeck had to duel with Christian Mathenia for the place in the HSV goal. During the test matches as part of the preparation for the season against Holstein Kiel and Sparta Rotterdam , Pollersbeck made mistakes, each of which led to goals conceded. Shortly before the start of the season, HSV coach Markus Gisdol finally decided on Mathenia as “number 1”. In order to gain match practice, Pollersbeck played for the first time for the second team in the fourth-class Regionalliga Nord on October 2, 2017 . Due to athletic deficits and poor training performance, Pollersbeck briefly lost his place as “number 2” to Tom Mickel in November 2017 . After the last first round game, Gisdol called out the position again. After the winter preparations, Pollersbeck finally replaced Mathenia as "number 1". He made his Bundesliga debut on January 13, 2018 (18th matchday) in the 0-1 defeat in the away game against FC Augsburg . After another game, Pollersbeck lost his place to Mathenia under the new coach Bernd Hollerbach . After Christian Titz, the third coach, had taken over the team this season, Pollersbeck became the goalkeeper again from matchday 27. In his first season at HSV he played 10 Bundesliga games and was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga with the club .

Also in the 2018/19 season , Pollersbeck was a regular goalkeeper under Titz and his successor Hannes Wolf and played 31 second division games. Although he finished 12 games without conceding a goal, which was the second-best value behind Rafał Gikiewicz ( Union Berlin ; 14), he was classified as worst by the kicker with an average score of 3.21 among 16 goalkeepers rated. In addition, his training performance was criticized. The HSV took 4th place and missed the direct re-promotion.

Before the 2019/20 season , a new goalkeeper was signed in Daniel Heuer Fernandes . Under the also new head coach Dieter Hecking , Pollersbeck was demoted to the third goalkeeper behind Heuer Fernandes and Tom Mickel . He also had to give his shirt number 1 to Heuer Fernandes. Until the winter break, Pollersbeck was in a league and a DFB Cup match in the matchday squad. In addition, he played 5 times for the second team in the Regionalliga Nord. At the beginning of January, Pollersbeck tore a ligament in his left ankle during the winter break during training and was unable to attend the winter training camp. However, he got back into team training at the beginning of February. After Heuer Fernandes was unable to convince in the long term, Pollersbeck returned to the HSV goal on matchday 29 and played the last 6 league games. As in the previous year, the HSV finished the season in 4th place and missed the promotion.

National team

He made his debut in the national jersey on November 10, 2016 in Berlin in the 1-0 win of the U21 national team against Turkey . The selection coach Stefan Kuntz appointed him to the squad for the U21 European Championship 2017 and named him the goalkeeper before Marvin Schwänke and Odisseas Vlachodimos . In the semi-final game against England, Pollersbeck saved two penalties on penalties after regular time (and overtime) had expired, thus making a decisive contribution to the German team's entry into the final of the tournament. After triumphing over Spain in the final, he was also voted the tournament's best goalkeeper.
