Career

society

Gikiewicz played in 2008 for the first time after his football training in the highest Polish league, the Ekstraklasa . With Jagiellonia Białystok he won the Polish Cup in 2010 . In the 2010/11 season he came only to two missions. Białystok later won the Supercup 1-0 against Master Lech Posen , but Gikiewicz did not play. In the summer of 2011 he moved to league rivals Śląsk Wrocław . In his first season he was Polish champion with the team. In the following season, the Pole was used for the first time internationally in the play-offs of the UEFA Europa League 2012/13 ; in the 3: 5 defeat against Hannover 96 he played over 90 minutes. In the 2013/14 season Gikieciwz completed eleven point games in the top Polish league and remained in five games without conceding a goal.

For the 2014/15 season he moved to Germany for the second division club Eintracht Braunschweig , where he received a two-year contract. There the goalkeeper immediately became a regular player. Since he played more than 25 games in his first season, his contract term was extended to 2017.

For the 2016/17 season , however, Gikiewicz moved to Bundesliga club SC Freiburg . There he remained behind Alexander Schwolow substitute goalkeeper and came in the following two seasons only to two appearances in the Bundesliga and in the DFB-Pokal . His two-year contract expired in summer 2018.

For the 2018/19 season, the Pole moved to the second division 1. FC Union Berlin , where he also signed a two-year contract. On October 7, 2018, the goalkeeper scored the goal to equalize 1-1 with a header in the league game against 1. FC Heidenheim shortly before the end of the game. At the end of the season, Gikiewicz, who had not missed a minute, rose with the team after a relegation success in the Bundesliga. Even in the top German division, the keeper played all competitive games until the season was interrupted by the global COVID-19 pandemic in spring 2020. During this forced break, Union Berlin announced at the end of April 2020 that Gikiewicz had not extended his contract, which was running out at the end of the season.

At the end of June 2020, Bundesliga competitor FC Augsburg announced the commitment of the Pole, who signed a two-year contract, for the 2020/21 season .

National team

At the end of May 2019, Gikiewicz was nominated for two European Championship qualifiers against Macedonia and Israel for the Polish national team , but was not used.
