OKS Stomil Olsztyn (officially Olsztyński Klub Sportowy Stomil Olsztyn ) is a sports club from the Polish city of Olsztyn (German: Allenstein). The club played eight seasons (1994-2002) in the Ekstraklasa , the highest Polish league. The greatest success was the sixth place in the 1995/96 season .

The OKS Stomil is one of the few professional clubs and above all the largest club from the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and for this reason has a large fan base. In the time when Stomil was still playing in the Ekstraklasa , the audience average was comparatively high. The current squad of the Olsztyn consists almost exclusively of players from Olsztyn and the region.

The club's colors are white-blue-white.

history

The association was founded on July 15, 1945 and renamed to Stomil Olsztyn in 1973 after the main sponsor Stomil Olsztyn (the largest tire manufacturer in Poland - bought by Michelin in 1992 ). After relegation from Ekstraklasa , the club was dissolved for financial reasons and re-established in 2003 as OKP Warmia i Mazury Olsztyn. In 2004 the association returned to its original name OKS 1945 Olsztyn. Under pressure from the fans and many responsible people, the club has been calling itself OKS Stomil again since February 16, 2012. The club currently plays in the Polish first division and thus in the second highest division in Poland.

Stadion

The home venue of the OKS Stomil is the OSiR stadium, which has a capacity of around 16,800. There are plans to demolish the stadium and build a new one.
