The Palais Doos or Doos'sche Palais in Wilster in Schleswig-Holstein is a former upper-class house that was donated to the city of Wilster in 1829. Today it houses the city's new town hall .

The building

The Palais Doos

The palace was built between 1785 and 1786 on behalf of the chancellery Johann Hinrich Doos as a residence for himself and his family. The late Baroque building of brick was used as a two-storey Palais with mansard roof on the model of Ahlefeldtschlosses in Pinneberg , the so-called Drostei designed. The Hamburg architect Ernst Georg Sonnin is believed to be the master builder . Almost all of the equipment, including furniture, paintings, chandeliers and statues for the garden area, was acquired by the client Doos when the Friedrichsruher Schloss was sold out . This residence in Drage , not far away, was built by the Schleswig-Holstein governor Friedrich Ernst von Brandenburg-Kulmbach until 1751 and after his death remained as a highly indebted legacy; in 1787 the building was demolished again.

You enter the palace on the first floor through a deep hallway via the seven-axis facade facing the city with the outside staircase . The large baroque cupboards still come from the castle in Drage. The rooms around the hall are laid out symmetrically and served as living spaces for the Doos family, while the representation rooms such as the Rococo room are on the second floor. An extensive library with more than 10,000 volumes was housed under the roof of the house, which has now found its place in the so-called Old Town Hall, today's city museum. After structural changes had been made to the city side of the palace in the meantime, the facade was reconstructed in 1938.

Behind the Palais is the Rathausgarten, a green area based on baroque gardens . The statues exhibited here also come from Friedrichsruhe Palace.

The New Town Hall

As early as 1829, the Doos'sche Palais, including the garden and outbuildings, became the property of the city of Wilster through a donation. From then on, it was to serve as the home of the respective mayor and the accommodation of the city administration, according to the will of the councilor Doos. The palace served entirely as the town hall until 2006. Today the city library and the city archive are housed here. The rococo ballroom on the upper floor is used as a wedding room. The town hall can be visited on various occasions, such as the farmers' market or on Sunday shopping.
