Location of the municipality of Drage in the Steinburg district | ||
Drage ( Low German : Draag ) is a municipality in the Steinburg district in Schleswig-Holstein . The districts of Brömsenknöll, Dragerborn, Ellerbrook, Hansch, Schäferei / Dorfstraße, Stammhof, Tiergarten and Wischhof belong to the community.
Geography and traffic
Drage is located 5 km southeast of Schenefeld . The brooks Bekau , Schönbek, Nonnenbach and the Rolloher Bek flow through the area of the municipality.
history
The name of the community probably means a narrow valley crossed by a stream . Since 1306 the Drage estate has belonged to various noble families, including the Krummendieks, the Sehestedts, the Ahlefeldts and the Rantzaus. After the murder of Christian Detlev zu Rantzau in 1721, which was instigated by his brother Wilhelm Adolf Rantzau, who was imprisoned for life for this, the property changed to the possession of the Danish king.
Margrave Friedrich Ernst von Brandenburg-Kulmbach , the brother-in-law of the Danish king, received the estate as a bequest and built Friedrichsruh Palace in 1745 , of which nothing has survived today as it was demolished in 1787.

coat of arms
Blazon : “Under a golden pewter shield head divided by a narrow silver wave bar of green and blue. Above two fan-shaped golden oat panicles between three golden beech leaves, below a silver boat with a side rudder. "
The silver boat in the blue coat of arms indicates that the community was once a staging area. The silver ribbon of the Bekau separates the foot from the main field, the colors of gold and green indicate agriculture.
Agriculture and forestry that still characterize the community are represented by three golden beech leaves and two golden panicles of oats . The golden head of the shield is reminiscent of Friedrichsruh Castle in Drage, which, despite its short history, had a formative effect on the region. The three battlements that separate Hauptfeld and Schildhaupt indicate the three districts of Schäferei / Dorfstraße, Hansch and Tiergarten, which emerged from the former aristocratic Drage estate.
