Bokhorst ( Low German : Bookhorst ) is a municipality in the Steinburg district in Schleswig-Holstein . Oberstenwehr is located in the municipality.
Geography and traffic
Bokhorst is located about 5 km west of Schenefeld and 14 km north of Itzehoe in a rural area. The federal highway 23 runs through the municipality. The community also includes the 21-hectare “Oberste Wehr” exclave , 17 km from Bokhorst near Abebtissinwisch near the Wilster Au and the Burg canal ferry on the Kiel Canal . In 1531 the Bokhorst farmers of the municipality of Wilster treated this area as pastureland. While at that time there was only one meadow called “Gojemathe” on the site, there are now two farms.
history
The area was probably settled as early as the 16th century, but the place itself was re-established in 1932 when several farming families settled.
In Bokhorst there is a manor house that once belonged to the estate of the same name.

coat of arms
Blazon : "In green, a lowered, narrow silver wave bar, above the silver facade of a mansion with a stair tower, raised by four silver beech leaves next to each other, the middle slightly raised."
The place name of the municipality of Bokhorst is derived from "Buchenghölz", which the four stylized beech leaves refer to. The main character is the manor house of the Bokhorst estate , which gives it its name, and the Wellenwaden refers to the Oberstenwehr district, an enclave belonging to the Bokhorst community , in which the Wilsterau runs as a border water. The color green represents the importance of agriculture in the community.
