politics
Community representation
Of the nine seats in the municipal council, the KWV electoral community has five seats since the 2013 local elections and the AWV electoral community four seats.
coat of arms
The municipality received its own coat of arms in 2011 with the aim of strengthening the local identity. The coat of arms designed by graphic artist Uwe Nagel emblazoned them as follows : A red wagon wheel emblazoned on a silver background above a green hill with six golden bricks; at the top it is framed by a three-fold curved blue shield head.
The Dreiberg and the hill illustrate Hennstedt's elevated position compared to the neighboring communities. The five-spoke wagon wheel symbolizes the streets that lead into the surrounding villages. The golden bricks are a reference to the former brick factory and its economic importance. The green of the hill alludes to the importance of agriculture, while the remaining colors, blue, white and red, correspond to the state colors of Schleswig-Holstein.

The Seelust bathing area in Hennstedt is one of the few bathing areas in the Aukrug Nature Park .
The sports club SV Kickers Hennstedt is based in Hennstedt and offers, among other things, soccer (men / youth), women's handball, gymnastics and tennis.
The neo-Gothic Christ Church was built in 1907 according to plans by the Hamburg architect Hugo Groothoff .
In Hennstedt, the 158 meter high Hennstedt telecommunications tower is a landmark that can be seen from afar . It used to serve as the basic network transmitter for RTL and Sat.1 in the analog terrestrial reception system.
