history
The oldest place name for the area of today's municipality Hohenlockstedt goes back to the year 1210, when a Holstein state assembly took place in the "Lockstedter Heide". Until about 1250 was there for the Holstengau the Goding held.
On June 7, 1625, before entering the Thirty Years' War , King Christian IV held an army show on the Lockstedt Heath and gathered his troops here in November 1626 after the unfortunate battle of Lutter .
A large Danish camp was established here in 1846 and the first Prussian camp in 1866. In 1881 the imperial maneuver was held on the Lockstedter Heide . In 1896 the shooting range was enlarged and the large Lockstedter Lager estate was created . The Lockstedter camp was now used as a military training area.
In 1899 the firing range and military training area was enlarged again. The entire area of the village of Ridders had also been purchased to enlarge it; the village ceased to exist. After the military training area was closed in 1920 as a result of the Treaty of Versailles , Ridders was soon rebuilt, but it became part of the newly founded community of Hohenlockstedt.
Hohenlockstedt was founded on July 1, 1927 as a rural community of Lockstedter Lager from the manor district of the same name. Numerous buildings date from this time, e. B. the Hohenlockstedter water tower with the signal mast. In 1956 the name was changed at the request of some resident entrepreneurs in Hohenlockstedt, as the term warehouse had a negative connotation during the Second World War .
From 1933 to 1945 there was an army ammunition facility in the Lockstedt camp. Remnants of it are still there in 2018. location
Since September 28, 2002, the community has its own museum called The Museum for the presentation of the local history of Hohenlockstedt and the history of the Royal Prussian Jäger Battalion 27 - the Finnish Hunters .

"M 1" stands for "Massivbaracke 1", a barracks building of the former Prussian military base "Lockstedter Lager" built around 1912, which was only used as a sports school for the SA during the Nazi era; later forced laborers were housed here. In 1945 civil use began by the Pohl-Boskamp company, which also operates a company museum.
