About this picture

Fitzbek ( Low German : Fitzbeek ) is a municipality in the Steinburg district in Schleswig-Holstein . The municipality is known for its breeding of Red Holstein , which was exported all over the world in 1902. Fitzbek has no other districts.

Geography and traffic

Fitzbek is 7 km northeast of Kellinghusen in the Aukrug Nature Park . The mill pond is located in the municipality. Stör , Mühlenbach , Kirchweddelbach , Bullenbach and Wegebek flow through the municipality.

history

The first secured documentary tradition of the village can be found as Vitzebeke in a document from 1412. The basic word of the place name refers to the (Middle) Low German word for Bach ; Regarding the defining word, it is not certain whether it goes back to the Middle Low German word for fish , the reconstructed Bach name Fitisa or a personal name Vitus or Vit .

politics

Community representation

Since the local elections in 2008, the constituency AF has all nine seats in the municipal council.

coat of arms

Blazon : "Under a silver shield head, inside a left-facing, lying black fallow deer shovel, in green a silver millstone."

The fallow deer shovel documents the still considerable game population in the wooded municipal area. The millstone in the center of the coat of arms indicates the leasehold water mill on the Mühlenau and its economic importance for the place and its surrounding area.

Economy and Infrastructure

Fitzbek is predominantly agricultural - especially dairy  farms. The mill, located at the tributary of the Wegebek into the mill pond, was previously operated with water power, today with electricity. There is a restaurant in the town center.
