Oliver Auge (born May 29, 1971 in Göppingen ) is a German historian . Since 2009 he has been a professor for regional history with a focus on the history of Schleswig-Holstein in the Middle Ages and early modern times at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel .

Life

Oliver Auge attended elementary and high school in his hometown Göppingen. After graduating from high school in 1990 and the subsequent military service, he studied history and Latin philology at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen from 1991 to 1997 . Between 1998 and 2000, Auge was a PhD scholarship holder at the Graduate School Ars and Scientia in the Middle Ages and in the Early Modern Age . In 2001 he submitted his dissertation to the Tübingen Institute for Historical Regional Studies and Historical Auxiliary Sciences. This work, entitled Stiftsbiographien. The clerics of the Stuttgart Holy Cross Foundation (1250–1552) were awarded the Baden-Württemberg History Prize.

From 1999 to 2001 Oliver Auge was a lecturer at the Tübingen Faculty of History. At the beginning of 2001 he switched to the chair for general history of the Middle Ages and historical auxiliary sciences at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Universität Greifswald as a research assistant , in which position he worked until the summer semester 2007. This was followed by a substitute professorship at the same chair in the 2007/2008 winter semester, as well as his habilitation in February 2008 on the subject of freedom of action in princely politics in the Middle Ages. The southern Baltic Sea region from the middle of the 12th century to the early Reformation period , whereupon Auge moved to the Technical University of Dresden as a visiting scientist in the special research area 537 Institutionality and Historicity for six months . He held another substitute professorship in the 2008/2009 winter semester for the subject of the High and Late Middle Ages at the Department of Medieval and Modern History at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . Since March 2009, Auge has been a professor at the Department of Regional History with a focus on Schleswig-Holstein in the Middle Ages and Early Modern Times at the Department of History at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel. In 2013, he turned down an offer at the University of Salzburg for a professorship for European regional history. In 2016 he was offered a W3 professorship for Medieval History at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald, which he also turned down.

Since 2009 he has been the editor of Series A: Contributions to the Schleswig-Holstein and Scandinavian history of the Kiel workpieces as well as co-editor of the Kiel Historical Studies , since 2013 the editor of the North Elbian local history and since 2018 the editor of the Kieler Schriften zur Regionalgeschichte . He has also published the commemorative publication for the 350th anniversary of Christian-Albrechts-Universität under the title 350 Years of Work in City, Country and World . Since 2019 he has been co-editor of the yearbook for regional history

His research focuses on regional and state history , imperial history , church history , social and constitutional history , as well as urban history of the Middle Ages and the early modern period . The regions of Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Baden-Württemberg are the main focus of his interest. Auge is a member of the Commission for German Inscriptions of the Middle Ages and Early Modern Times of the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen , is a Scientific Advisory Board member of the Humanities Center for the History and Culture of Eastern Europe eV (GWZO) at the University of Leipzig and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Stauferstiftung Göppingen and a corresponding member of the Lorenz von Stein Institute at the Christian Albrechts University. He is also a member of the Historical Commission for Pomerania , the board of the Society for Schleswig-Holstein History , the Board of Trustees of the Nordfriisk Instituut and the Constance Working Group for Medieval History (since 2015).
