Christiane Witthöft

Christiane Witthöft (born January 23, 1973 in Siegen ) is a German specialist in German .

Christiane Witthöft studied from 1992 to 1998 at the University of Bonn . There she was Gerd Althoff's assistant . In 1998 she passed the state examination. From 2000 to 2007 she was a research assistant at the Münster Collaborative Research Center 496 “Symbolic Communication and Social Value Systems from the Middle Ages to the French Revolution”. There she joined Althoff in 2002 with a thesis on text and ritual. Doctorate in symbolic communication in historiography and literature of the Middle Ages . From 2007 to 2009 she was a research assistant at the Department of German Philology at the University of Göttingen , where she qualified as a professor at the chair of German studies Udo Friedrich in 2011 .

Witthöft was junior professor for German literature of the late Middle Ages and the early modern period at Kiel University from 2009 to 2013 . In the winter semester 2011/2012 she held a substitute professorship for German Medieval Studies there. Since October 2013 she has been teaching as professor for Germanic and German Philology at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg .

Her research focus is the epics of the 12th to 16th centuries. The focus is on the late Middle Ages ( courtly novel , heroic epic , novellism, legend ). Further focal points are cultural-historical perspectives of medieval literature as well as rituality and mediality in fiction and historiography.
