Sabine Wefers
Sabine Wefers (born April 17, 1957 in Essen ) is a German historian and librarian .
Sabine Wefers studied Slavic Studies and Eastern European History at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen from 1976 to 1982 and, from the 1979 summer semester, Russian and history for teaching at grammar schools. Her academic teacher was Peter Moraw . From 1984 to 1986 she was a research assistant at the History Department of the University of Giessen. With Moraw she received her doctorate in 1987 on the political system of Emperor Sigmund . She wants to shed light on the “political system of Emperor Sigmund” in its “political functional contexts” between king and empire. Their investigation provided valuable new insights into the late Middle Ages and the rule of Sigmund from Luxembourg . Wefers graduated from the library school in Frankfurt.
From 1988 to 1990 Wefers was a research assistant at the City and University Library in Frankfurt am Main . From 1990 to 1999 she was head of department there. From 1999 to 2018 she was managing director of the Thuringian University and State Library in Jena . Since 2000 she has been co-editor of the Zeitschrift für Bibliothekwesen und Bibliographie . In 2003 she refused an appointment as general director of the Saxon State Library - Dresden State and University Library .
