Gabriel Zeilinger

Gabriel Zeilinger (* 1975 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German medieval historian .

Life

After high school and community service , Zeilinger studied history, geography and Nordic philology in Kiel and Oslo from 1996 . From 1998 to 2002 he was a student assistant at the professorship for economic and social history with Gerhard Fouquet . After the master's examination in 2002 he was the 2002/2003 academic assistant at the University of Greifswald in that of Karl-Heinz spit -led research project "Principes. The social network of the imperial princes and the inner structure of the imperial princes in the late Middle Ages ”. From 2003 to 2005 he was a scholarship holder of the Gerda Henkel Foundation, and since August 2005 he has been a research assistant . After receiving his doctorate in 2006, he has been a senior academic since 2011 . Currently at the professorship for economic and social history. In the 2011/2012 winter semester, he held a research grant from the Gerda Henkel Foundation. After completing his habilitation in the summer semester 2013, with a thesis on the urbanization of Alsace in the High Middle Ages, he has represented the Kiel professorship for economic and social history for three semesters. In March 2014 he conducted research as a visiting scholar at the University of Uppsala , from March 2016 as a DSM Fellow / Senior Expert at the German Maritime Museum in Bremerhaven . In the 2016/17 winter semester he was professor for comparative national history from a European perspective (focus on the late Middle Ages) at the University of Heidelberg , and in the 2018/2019 winter semester he was visiting professor at the Department of History and the Present of Ancient Europe at the Fernuniversität Hagen .

His research and interests are medieval economic and social history - especially of the city and the aristocracy - as well as their links to political history; History of medieval catastrophes, not least of war and shipwreck; Southwest German regional history; Scandinavian history; and American history.
