coat of arms

The design of the coat of arms of Sankt Margarethen comes from the heraldic artist Lothar Leissner from Itzehoe, who designed all the coats of arms in Schleswig-Holstein. The coat of arms was approved on March 9, 1993.

Coat of arms of Sankt Margarethen
Blazon : Divided by silver and blue in a wave cut . Above growing the red -clad holy Margaretha with golden crown of martyrdom , in his right hand a Lowered golden sword in his left hand a golden book keeping and accompanied on both sides by two six-pointed blue stars on each other. Below is a red -tongued silver dragon lying on its back, covered with the tip of the sword. "
Justification of the coat of arms: The saint in the coat of arms of the municipality of St. Margarethen refers both to the name of the place that goes back to her and to its past. The martyr Margaretha was thrown into a Roman dungeon and tortured because of her Christian faith . She resisted attempts to win her back to paganism ; this fight is symbolized in the coat of arms by the dragon . The resistance of the inhabitants to the destructive forces of the water is comparable to the fight of Margaretha against the dragon of temptation. The four stars in the coat of arms represent the districts of Heideducht , Kirchducht , Osterbünge and Stuven . At the same time, the Vierzahl addresses the close relationships between St. Margarethen and the neighboring communities of Büttel , Kudensee and Landscheide . The lower blue half of the shield symbolizes the water of the Elbe. In addition, the dominant colors in the coat of arms, blue, silver and red, are the state colors of Schleswig-Holstein.
