The municipal elections in Schleswig-Holstein 2018 for the municipal and district representatives took place on May 6, 2018.

Starting position

The previous local elections on May 26, 2013 were valid for an election period for the newly elected representatives from June 1, 2013 to May 31, 2018.

Suffrage

All citizens of EU countries who had reached the age of 16 on election day and had lived in Schleswig-Holstein for at least three months were eligible to vote.

The current legal bases include:

  • Municipal and District Election Act (GKWG) as published on March 19, 1997 (GVOBl. Schleswig-Holstein page 151), last amended by Article 5 of the law of March 22, 2012 ( GVOBl . Schleswig-Holstein p. 371)
  • Municipal and district election regulations (GKWO) dated December 2, 2009 (GVOBl. Schl.-H. page 747)
