history

The village street in Schlotfeld

The community, whose name probably means Feld am Graben , was first mentioned in a document in 1303 . In 1528 Count Johann Rantzau received the rights to the village as a gift from King Friedrich I.

coat of arms

Blazon : "Divided by green and gold in a snake cut, above three green slanted linden leaves 2: 1, below two golden slanted linden leaves 1: 1.5."

The place name Schlotfeld derives from the Low German slot field (field at the moat, at the water channel). The S-shaped shield division relates to the name interpretation. The first written mention of the place, which was still written Slotveld at that time , is related to the definition of the city limits of Itzehoe. These limits, which were set on October 5, 1303, have only changed insignificantly for Schlotfeld to this day. It is believed that the old village linden was a kind of border marker. The linden leaves should point this out and remind of the old village linden , which fell victim to a hurricane in 1983 . The five linden leaves are also intended to symbolize the five districts of the community.
