Location of the municipality of Lägerdorf in the Steinburg district | ||
Lägerdorf ( Low German : Lägerdbod ) is a predominantly industrial community in the Steinburg district in Schleswig-Holstein . Since April 1, 2003 it has been part of the Breitenburg Office . The place is dominated by the cement factory , which can be seen from afar in the flat surrounding area.
Location and geography
Lägerdorf is about five kilometers south-east of Itzehoe on the federal highway 23 from Hamburg to Itzehoe. There is also a railway line between Lägerdorf and Itzehoe, known as the “Kreidebahn”, which is only used for freight traffic. The immediate vicinity of the place is characterized by the cement industry in the form of chalk pits (Englische Kreidegrube, Kreidegrube Schinkel, Kreidegrube Heidestrasse, Chalk Pit Saturn and some other older small pits, most of which have now been filled in again).
Although Schleswig-Holstein was formed in the course of the Ice Age , which is particularly clear in parts of the Geest (Hohe Geest) and in the hill country of East Holstein, which were created by ground moraines and terminal moraines of melting glaciers , there are some places whose geological profile differs. Lägerdorf lies in one of these areas.
The subsoil in Lägerdorf consists of a 400-meter-thick layer of very pure chalk, i.e. of dead microscopic marine animals that can also be detected in fossils. This chalk layer originated in the Senon, the youngest formation in the Upper Chalk , and is interspersed with relatively few flint banks . In the Tertiary, this layer was raised and arched by a salt dome so that it reached the surface.
history
The place was first mentioned in the 13th century, but was probably founded in the second half of the 12th century by Dutch settlers. It was originally called Hollendersdorpe, or Legerdorpe, also after a name for Dutch dike builders .
The industrialization in the 19th century changed the place significantly after chalk was found and from 1862 the cement industry settled in Lägerdorf. This helped the place to a supra-regional economic importance.
In 1863 the Alsen Portland Cement Factory was founded by Otto Friedrich Alsen, and in 1884 the Breitenburg Portland Cement Factory was founded by ten North German merchants. The merger of the plants took place in 1972, and since 2003 they have operated under the name Holcim .
In the Reichstag election in March 1933, 28.8% voted for the NSDAP , 3.7% for the DNVP , 23.2% for the SPD and 41.4% for the KPD, with a turnout of 91.9%. In March 1933, Lägerdorf was by far the largest KPD stronghold in Schleswig-Holstein.
As a result of the exploitation of the chalk pits and the associated lowering of the groundwater, problems arose with the town's water supply, which were solved by the construction of its own water tower from 1938.
On April 1, 2003, Lägerdorf gave up his freedom of office and joined the Breitenburg office .
economy
The largest local employers are the Holcim cement works and the BKK Schleswig-Holstein . There are also numerous craft and retail businesses.
