Wrist is a municipality in the Steinburg district in Schleswig-Holstein .

Geography and traffic

Wrist station

Wrist and Wrist station are on the Hamburg-Altona-Kiel railway line between the Neumünster and Elmshorn stations . From 1889 to 1995, the Wrist – Itzehoe railway also ran from here

The federal highway 206 runs through the municipality.

A small river, the Bramau , flows through the village. In summer you can swim in the Bramau; Canoeists use the Bramau on their run between Bad Bramstedt and Kellinghusen in the Stör .

The districts of Dammhof, Freudental, Heidrehm, Stellau, Weidenhof, Wittenkamp and Wurth belong to the community.

history

In the year 1201 in the battle of Stellau Waldemar II. (Together with his brother King Knuth VI. Of Denmark ) Count Adolf III. defeated by Schauenburg and Holstein .

In 1230, Archbishop Gebhard II of Bremen inaugurated a Romanesque stone church near this battlefield, namely the Stellau church, which has been preserved to this day (see picture).

The current municipality of Wrist was created in 1938 through the union of the municipalities of Stellau and Wrist.

Since the local elections in 2018, the CDU has eight, the SPD four and the WGW electoral community three seats in the municipal council.
