Location of the municipality of Tolk in the Schleswig-Flensburg district | ||
Tolk is a municipality in the Schleswig-Flensburg district in Schleswig-Holstein . Next to the place Tolk are Lobacker ( Danish : Lovager , also Lobager ) and Tolkschuby ( Tolkskovby ) in the municipality.
geography
The place is in a glacial valley in southern fishing near the Schlei .
history
As many archaeological finds from the Stone and Bronze Ages prove, the place has been settled for a very long time and was first mentioned in 1192. There are diverging assumptions regarding the meaning of the place name. It could be interpreted as a cut, a bay, a chasm (cf. old north. Tálga carve) or as a tapering (grave) mound , going back to old Danish. * Tholghøghe , made up of stick, Pflok (old north. Þollr , Danish told ) and hill (old Danish Høgh ).
Tolk Church was built in the last quarter of the 12th century. Since some of the built stones are marked with pre-Christian signs, it can be assumed that they are located in an old cult site.
In the middle of the 16th century, the Tolkschuby estate was created from individual farms and was divided into the three farms of Alt-Tolkschuby, New Tolkschuby and Katharinenhof as early as 1786.
Until December 31, 2006, Tolk was the administrative seat of the office of the same name .
