About this picture

Börm ( Danish : Børm) is a municipality in the Schleswig-Flensburg district in Schleswig-Holstein. Börmerkoog and Neubörm are in the municipality.

geography

Börm lies partly in the low moor area of the Treene - Sorge- Niederung, partly on the Schleswig Vorgeest .

history

Börm is first mentioned in 1463 as Barm, a place on the Barmer See (today: Börmer Koog). Barm referred to in Low German an embankment or embankment ( berm ). The lake was drained by the Dutch from 1624. However, the dikes were destroyed again around 1660, so that the newly reclaimed land was lost again. It was not until 1702 that the area was finally drained and settled.

Neubörm was established in 1763. Colonists, most of whom came from the Darmstadt area, were given land to establish a settlement and to reclaim the heath. Because the settlement was partly carried out in an amateurish way, a large part of the colonists left the new settlement a little later, the others divided the land among themselves.

After the German-Danish war of 1864, Börm fell to Prussia in 1867, along with the rest of the Duchy of Schleswig . In 1938 Börm was merged with Neubörm.

A tree protection statute has existed for the municipality since 2009.

politics

Community representation

Of the eleven seats in the municipal council, the ABWG community of voters had six seats and the ABB community of voters five seats since the 2008 local elections. In the local elections on May 26, 2013, only nine seats were left. The ABB received 50.3 percent and five seats, the ABWG received 49.7 percent and four seats. The turnout was 69.4 percent. In 2018, ABB was able to increase its share of the vote to 71.2 percent, winning six seats, while the ABWG received 28.8 percent.

mayor

Hans-Peter von Lanken (ABB) was elected Bormer Mayor for the 2013–2018 election period. He succeeded Sigrid Cohrt (ABWG), who was in office from 1994 to 2013. Von Lanken was confirmed in office in 2018.

coat of arms

Blazon : “With a curved dividing line of green and gold square. Above in confused colors the gable side of a small farmhouse (colonist house), below crossed and with the iron upwards two spades, also in confused colors. "

The place Börm consists of the originally independent communities Neubörm and Börm and lies on the western edge of the Schleswig Vorgeest. The western municipal area extends into the Eider-Treene lowland and is formed by the Börmer Koog, a former flat lake. The farmhouse in the coat of arms represents a so-called "colonist house" from the district of Neubörm. It was built in the course of the heather and bog colonization in the middle of the 18th century. The crossed spades symbolize the draining of the former Barmer See, today's Börmer Koog. The curved dividing line of the coat of arms refers to the place name "Börm" (nd. Barm, Berme = accumulation, elevation) and thus at the same time to the settlement of the small Geestinseln between the eastern tributaries in the former Barmer See. The changing colors of green and gold symbolize the two natural spaces, which are characterized by dry sand areas in the east and moist lowlands in the west. The coat of arms itself was only designed a few years ago.
