history

The place name means deer forest .

Since Jardelund was laid out very defensively on a hilltop , it is assumed that the place is on the remains of an old defensive post against the Frisians . However, Jardelund was not mentioned in a document until 1393. A branch of the Ochsenweg ran through the village .

In the 18th century Jardelund was within the area where families from southwest Germany were settled as part of the Geest colonization . In the past, peat mining was always an important source of income for the community . Today the Frösleer-Jardelunder Moor, which is partly in Denmark and has been renatured, is a nature reserve . The history of rural life over the past 100 years is presented in the local Christian Lassens Mind Museum .

politics

Community representation

The nine seats in the local council has been holding the local elections in 2013 - as it has been the local elections in 2008 - the voter community WGJ.

coat of arms

Blazon : "In gold, coupled with four narrow green trays, a large green square with a golden dinging stick and a golden peat spade crossed at an angle ."

The green square on an equally green St. Andrew's cross embodies the layout of the village. It is surrounded by ramparts like a fortress, with openings only at the four corners. They used to be closed at night. The so-called Dingstock, with which village assemblies (the Thing ) were previously called , from 1756 represents the rural community in the village. The peat spade is a reminder that peat mining has been an important source of income for the community residents for centuries.

economy

The place is predominantly agricultural. In the past, peat was also extracted.

Today regenerative energy generation and distribution is also an important branch of the economy. In the years 2013–2015, one of 13  extra-high voltage substations in Schleswig-Holstein was built here. This is located in the section between Kassø in the Danish Aabenraa municipality and Schacht-Audorf near Rendsburg and is operated by the transmission system operator Tennet TSO from its branch in Schacht-Audorf. It also takes in the electricity from the surrounding wind farms , which is largely generated from wind energy . Both the Kirchspiel-Medelby community wind farm and the neighboring Weesby substation within the Schleswig-Holstein network are connected to the substation via a 110kV line each.

In May 2018, a battery storage power plant went into operation in Jardelund . The plant of the manufacturer Eneco has an output of 48 MW and a capacity of more than 50 MWh. It is intended to be used mainly for the provision of primary control energy to replace fossil fuel power plants. At the same time, the system is intended to help reduce the curtailment of wind turbines in Schleswig-Holstein.

Culture

The parish belongs to the parish of St. Matthew in Medelby .

The center of the sporting and cultural life are the village hall and the fire station .
