Schuby (pronounced: Schubü; Danish : Skovby ) is a municipality in the Schleswig-Flensburg district in Schleswig-Holstein . Königswill ( Kongshvile ), Jägerkrug ( Jægerkro ) and Neukrug ( Nykro ) are in the municipality.

Geography and traffic

Schuby is 7 km from Schleswig at the intersection of the federal motorway 7 from Schleswig to Flensburg and the federal highway 201 from Kappeln to Husum . The nearest motorway exit is called Schleswig / Schuby. To the east of the village is the Pöhler Gehege forest area . The Neumünster – Flensburg or Husum – Kiel railway runs in the northeast ; however, the former Schuby stop is no longer served.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1196. The name comes from the Danish “Skovby”, meaning forest village. Stone Age and Bronze Age finds, however, already indicate prehistoric settlement. Before the Migration Period , lawn iron ore was mined here . Archaeologists uncovered 36 houses from the Viking Age .

Until the German-Danish War in 1864, the place belonged to the parish Sankt Michaelis (Sankt Mikaelis Sogn) within the Arensharde in the Duchy of Schleswig . Then Schuby belonged to the Friedrichsfeld community until it was dissolved on January 20, 1873. Schuby was one of the three successor communities.

In 2001, the Schleswig-Flensburg district recognized the community as particularly child, youth and family-friendly.

Festivals

Since 2009 the open air Schuby takes place every two years in summer on the Schubyer sports field . This was organized by the local settler community and the operators of the sports home. Bands from the region who represented genres such as marching music , hits , pop and death metal played over a period of up to three years . The event continued every two years with up to 10,000 visitors.

The heavy metal festival Meltdown has been held in Schuby since 2016. The line-up included the bands Rezet , Tyranex and Lacerated And Carbonized from Brazil. The former celebrated the release of their EP You Asked For It during their performance .

Economy and Infrastructure

In 2012, the Arensharde district began planning an intermunicipal industrial park (IKG) together with the city ​​of Schleswig . This is located out of town directly on the B201. The company Niersberger from Erlangen, which operates a biogas plant that ferments sugar beet and feeds biomethane into the gas network, is also located outside the town . Tennet TSO has been building a new substation in the west of Schuby since mid-2018 . This is an important feed-in point for renewable energy into the power grid. In addition, the Bölck travel service has its headquarters in the industrial park.

For daily needs there is a bakery, a gas station, a dentist and general practitioner as well as a discounter, a German post office and various Internet retailers such as B. Rum & Co , bingo shop , beach kitchen and Dip-Fee . In addition, Schuby has a primary school and good bus connections.
