About this picture

Tielen ( Danish : Tiele) is a municipality in the Schleswig-Flensburg district in Schleswig-Holstein . The districts of Tielerfeld, Pahlhorn and Grothkamp are in the municipality.

geography

Tielen is located north of the Eider at Geest -Rand between polders and marshes. It is the southernmost village in the Stapelholm cultural landscape .

history

In 1323 the Tielenburg , which was located east of Tielen at the mouth of the Tielenau , was first mentioned as the ducal-Holstein castrum Tylenborgh. Until 1500 the castle was the administrative seat of the Bailiwick of Tielen in the royal Danish possession of Stapelholm . Because the Dithmarschers destroyed the castle after the battle of Hemmingstedt in 1500 and also as a result of flooding, today's village of Tielen was rebuilt in 1533 on the Geestrand.

From the end of the 17th century to 1920 there were ship owners in Tielen who traded all over Europe. However, due to the newly built Kiel Canal , which diverted the flow of goods, and the increasing tonnage of ships, they had to give up this branch of business.

Since the municipal elections in 2013, the KWG electoral community has eight seats in the municipal council.
